PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has said that at least 12 people were killed and 15 others injured in separate incidents caused by heavy rains and flash floods across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the PDMA, most of the casualties occurred due to the collapse of roofs and walls of houses or people being swept away by flash floods.

The deceased include six men, five children, and one woman, while the injured comprise eight men, two women, and five children.

The heavy rains also damaged 14 houses, including 13 partially damaged and one completely destroyed.

The affected districts include Peshawar, Khyber, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur, Lower Chitral, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Torghar, and Kurram.

The PDMA said Rescue 1122, district administrations, and other relevant departments are working in coordination, and relief operations are underway in the affected areas. The Director General PDMA has directed district administrations to accelerate relief efforts and ensure the immediate provision of relief goods and all possible assistance to the affected families.

The authority added that water levels and flow in all rivers and streams across the province remain within normal limits. However, intermittent heavy rainfall is expected to continue until July 23, and all district administrations have already been placed on alert.

The DG PDMA urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from vulnerable and tourist areas, and strictly follow weather advisories and alerts issued by the relevant authorities.
