PESHAWAR, November 21: The Mehsud tribe of South Waziristan Agency (SWA) has formed a 20-member committee for the representation of their tribe in an All Tribal Grand Jirga to be held in Islamabad.

In a meeting of Mehsud tribe, the committee members were nominated today in Dera Ismail Khan. The committee has been asked to put forth the problems and grievances of internally displaced persons (IPDs) of South Waziristan during the proposed All Tribal Grand Jirga.

About the grand jirga called by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the tribal elders claimed that the committee had been formed on basis of political affiliation.

One of the meeting participants, Mr Badshahi Khan, criticised the grand jirga and told the TNN, “We want to know that where Asfandyar Wali, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Mehmood Achakzai and Sherpao have been? These politicians have totally forgotten us during last six years. Now as they have witnessed that we take our decisions and that we can solve our problems, they have gathered the elders of tribal areas and formed a jirga. We feel that they want to disrupt the negotiations that are in progress with the militants in South Waziristan for peaceful settlement of the militancy issue.”
