MARDAN: Mardan Police have arrested three persons accused of cutting the hair of a transgender person after briefly kidnapping and torturing him on Eid day.
Police said it came to know about the incident which happened in Mall Mandi Chamiaran area on Eid day. The transgender person, Shakeel alias Shakeela, was kidnapped briefly and he was tortured and his hair were cut by the kidnappers. The district police chief took notice of the matter and formed a team for arresting the accused. The police team investigated the incident on modern scientific lines and arrested three accused, Shahzeb, Mansoor and Fakhar-e-Alam. The accused were sent to lock up and further investigation was underway.
Fire incidents in Mardan, Nowshera
The rescue operation to douse the fire on Karamar mountain of Mardan is continuing for the last two days.
Fire has been brought under control on one side of the mountain, while operation by firefighters on the other side of the mountain is still continuing. Fifty-two personnel, five fire brigade vehicles and two ambulances are taking part in the rescue operation.
A spokesman for Rescue 1122 said the local people and 100 officials of the Forest Department are also helping the firefighters to douse the fire. The operation is continuing despite extreme hot weather and heat of the fire. Director General Rescue 1122 Dr Khateer Ahmed is personally supervising the operation, while Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Pervaiz Khan, Chief Conservation Officer Niaz Ali and Assistant Commissioner Chota Lahor Tabinda Tariq also visited the site.
Fire broke out on Karamar mountain due to unknown reasons on Thursday due to unknown reasons. Since then, the rescue personnel with the help of local people are trying to douse the fire.
Another incident of fire happened in Landa Bazaar, Nowshera where a number of shops were damaged.
Local people said the fire erupted in Landa Bazaar situated in Risalpur, Nowshera and engulfed the whole market within few minutes. The owners of shops in Landa Bazaar suffered massive losses in the incident.
The affected shopkeepers said they kept on dialling the number of Rescue 1122, but the line was busy. The affected shopkeepers demanded the government to compensate them.
