MIRANSHAH: Three children were injured in two blasts in North and South Waziristan tribal districts on Saturday.

Official sources said an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded in Mohammadkhel area of North Waziristan in which a girl sustained injuries. The girl was shifted to hospital for treatment.

The sources said an IED also exploded in Sra Rogha area of South Waziristan in which two children were injured.

Militants in tribal districts often plant landmines to target security forces, but these landmines also trap civilians along with security forces. So many casualties have occurred in landmine blasts in tribal districts, particularly in Waziristan, recently.

On August 24, a security personnel was martyred, while five others were injured in a landmine blast in North Waziristan. Sources said a party of the security forces was on routine patrol in Speen Wam area of Mir Ali tehsil when a landmine exploded on them.

The martyred security personnel was identified as Younis, while the injured included Naib Subedar Subair, Naik Rehmat Badshah, Lance Naik Umar Nawaz, Sepoys Sahib and Muslim. The injured soldiers were taken to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Bannu.

The security forces cordoned off the entire are and launched search operation after the blast. However, there was no report about any arrest.

The same day, three children including two brothers, were critically injured in a landmine blast in Safi area of Mohmand tribal district.

On August 20, four persons lost their lives and eight others sustained injuries in two separate landmine blasts in North and South Waziristan tribal districts.

On August 07, a 14-year-old boy was critically injured in a landmine blast in Dattakhel tehsil of North Waziristan.

One June 25, a child lost her life and three others were injured in a landmine blast in North Waziristan. The sources said children belonging to same family were playing outside their home when one of them stepped over a landmine.

On June 14, a security personnel lost his life in a landmine explosion in South Waziristan. Official sources said a soldier was coming back to his check post after repairing a water pipeline in Sra Rogha tehsil when he stepped on a landmine.
