PARACHINAR: Three educational institutions have been closed in Kurram tribal district after emergence of 48 coronavirus cases.

TNN correspondent reported that a meeting chaired by District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Attaullah at Civil Hospital Parachinar on Monday was held to devise strategy to stem the spread of coronavirus. Several important decisions were taken during the meeting which was attended by representatives of health and other departments besides media persons.

The DHO said 48 corona cases have surfaced in Kurram. He said corona tests of some students and teachers three educational institutions have also come back as positive which have been closed. The closed educational institutions also include Benazir Degree College Parachinar. These educational institutions will remain closed till further orders. The affected students and staff have been directed to quarantine themselves and implement precautionary measures.

Dr Attaullah said people need to follow precautionary measures as second wave of coronavirus has already started and it many cause more damages than the earlier wave. They urged the people to fully cooperate with the Health Department in its efforts to control coronavirus.

On November 11, the Government Girls Degree College Sheikh Maltoon, Mardan was closed for seven days after seven students were diagnosed with coronavirus.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Abid Wazir told TNN that tests of teachers and students of Government Girls Degree College Sheikh Maltoon were conducted and seven tests came back as positive. The college has been closed for seven days, while the ongoing BS exam in the college will continue under strict standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The deputy commissioner said the district administration is continuing checking of different educational institutions for ensuring implementation of SOPs. He said the administration has issued strict instructions to all institutions to ensure implementation of precautionary measures to avoid the spread of the disease.

On November 10, five students of a private college in Charsadda were diagnosed with coronavirus after which the college was closed for one week.

The infected students had participated in a sports gala of private colleges few days ago. It has created concerns among other students who attended the event. Sources said that despite the fact that corona-like symptoms appeared in some students, many students still participated in different sports events at the gala at the Abdul Wali Khan University Sports Complex.
