PESHAWAR, June 3: The International Monitoring Board of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative has revealed in its 2014 report that four out of every five polio-affected children on world level belong to Pakistan.
The report says that this year the number of reported polio cases is higher in Pakistan than Nigeria and adds that poliovirus has been transferred from Pakistan to Israel, Syria, and Palestine.
The report also criticised attacks on polio vaccination teams in Pakistan, and asked the prime minister and president to establish a strong department comprising federal and provincial officials and authorities of the armed forces to contain the disease.
Since 1 June, all Pakistanis are being vaccinated for polio and they are also asked to produce polio vaccination certificates while travelling abroad.
