PESHAWAR, August 22: Death toll from the 21 August hail and rainstorm in the provincial capital Peshawar has reached 13.
Roofs of several shops and houses collapsed in Regi, Karkhano Market and Badaber areas, leaving eight people dead, including children and woman, and more than 50 injured.
TNN correspondent says five bodies were found in a pickup truck in Nasir Bagh area at morning; the vehicle had plunged into a flooded stream amid heavy rain.
Deputy Commissioner of Peshawar, Mr Zaheerul Islam, said the electricity and telephone system, which had been disturbed due to hailstorm, has been restored and that the concerned departments were still working on electricity lines in some areas.
The deputy commissioner said they had also asked the administration to assess the losses caused by rainstorm so that government starts compensating the affectees.
