PESHAWAR, September 11: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League- N, its allies and opposition parties have formed 5-member committee to assess the process of talks that have been under way between the government and Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTIand Pakistan Awmai Tehrik leadership.
The leaders of PTI and PAT have been protesting in the federal capital Islamabad since 12 August, alleging rigging in the 2013 general elections and demanding the Prime Minister Mr Nawaz Sharif to resign and hold re-election.
On 10 September, Nawaz Sharif meet the opposition and allies in the parliament where Federal Finance Minister Mr Ishaq Dar and Zahid Hamid presented a briefing about the negotiation processes with the protesting parties.
According to reports in the Pakistani media, Mr Dar said that Imran Khan also wanted to form another council, even after formation of a judicial commission, to probe rigging in last year’s elections. However, he added that it was an unconstitutional demand.
Moreover, he said Mr Imran Khan demanded completion of probe about rigging in elections at 30 constituencies through the judicial commission within 30 days, but that it was not possible in such a shot time.
To review legal and constitutional aspects of negotiations with the protesting parties, a five-member committee was formed, comprising Mr Ishaq Dar, Mr Zahid Hamid, Mr Aitezaz Ahsan, Mr Raza Rabbani and Mr Salman Butt.
On the other hand, the PTI has announced to celebrate 12 September as the national day after completion of one month of their sit-in in Islamabad.
