PESHAWAR: Six people lost their lives and seven others were injured in separate traffic accidents in Swat, Mardan and Tank districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday.
In Swat, a car coming from Gilgit to Mingora fell into a deep ravine while negotiating a sharp turn in Chagmalai area. Three people died in the accident, while four others were injured, police said. The injured persons were shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. The deceased and the injured belonged to Chatial area of Gilgit-Baltistan.
In Mardan, two people were killed and two others sustained injuries in a traffic accident on the Ring Road near Haider Killi.
According to Rescue 1122 sources, the accident occurred when a loader and Shehzor van collided. After the accident, the driver of Shehzor van escaped from the scene. Two people sitting in the loader died in the accident and two others were injured. The victims were going to Mirwas vegetable market for work when the incident happened. The bodies and the injured were taken to Mardan Medical Complex (MMC).
Meanwhile, one person was killed and another was injured when a car collided with a motorcycle on Dera Ismail Khan Road near the secretariat in Tank. The driver of the car was killed in the accident, while his colleague was injured. The injured person was initially taken to Tank Hospital, from where he was shifted to DI Khan due to his critical condition.
Traffic accidents routinely happen in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa mainly due to reckless driving by the drivers and poor condition of roads.
3 die in Hangu roof collapse
Three members of a family lost their lives when roof of a house collapsed in Hangu in the wee hours of Saturday.
Police said the family members were sleeping in their house in Halyamena area when the roof collapsed at 3:00am. The deceased included Islamuddin, his wife Naz Begum and their one and a half year old son Musaddiq. Police said a daughter of Islamuddin was also injured in the incident who was taken to hospital.
The roof of the house collapsed due to its dilapidated condition. The family was poor and could not afford renovation of the house.
