PESHAWAR: Eight people lost their lives and 10 others were injured in two road accidents in Peshawar and Swat.
Rescue 1122 said a van and a rickshaw collided on Bara Road in Peshawar on Tuesday night. The rickshaw was badly damaged, while the van fell into canal. The Rescue 1122 personnel with three ambulances with rescue and recovery vehicles immediately reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and retrieved the injured persons from the canal.
Fourteen persons were initially injured in the accident who were taken to the Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar for treatment. Four persons succumbed to their injuries in the hospital, while others are receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, four persons drowned when a car fell into river in Madian area of Swat on Tuesday. The bodies of two of the deceased have been retrieved, while search for two other bodies is underway.
Road accidents often happen in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to poor condition of roads, untrained drivers and reckless driving by drivers.
On August 15, four persons were killed when a vehicle plunged into a deep ravine near Balakot.
Four youth from Bajaur were on the way to Naran for recreation when their vehicle met the accident in Balakot. The road was damaged due to recent landslides.
In Buner, another traffic accident happened in which five persons, including three women and a child, lost their lives and two others sustained injuries when a car plunged into a ravine at Karakar Mountain.
Meanwhile, two persons lost their lives when two motorcycles collided in Jawar area. In another incident, two local tourists were killed in the scenic valley of Swat when their vehicle fell into a deep ravine in Malam Jabba area.
On July 27, three persons were killed, while five others sustained injuries in traffic accidents Mohmand tribal district.
The first accident occurred in Zargarabad area of tehsil Safi where a speeding motorcycle collided with a car due to which three persons were killed and another was injured.
The second accident was also reported from the same tehsil where two flying coaches collided due to which three passengers were critically injured. The third accident was reported from tehsil Haleemzai where a speeding flying coach hit the motorcycle in Atukhel area, leaving motorcyclist critically injured.
