afghanPESHAWAR, May 3: About 400 people have died as landslides obliterated houses in Badakhshan province of Afghanistan.

Reports in the western media say hundreds of houses were destroyed when a section of a mountain collapsed after torrential rain in Argo district.

The Badakhshan Governor, Ayub Islami, said hundreds had died and more than 200 people gone missing.

Last week more than 150 people died in flash floods in various parts of Afghanistan.

As Friday morning is usually a day of rest in most areas of Afghanistan, people were at home, and that is why landsliding caused huge casualties.
