MIRANSHAH, May 30: One more child was diagnosed with poliovirus in North Waziristan, raising the number of polio cases to 70 in the country this year.
According to the Prime Minister Polio Control Cell, 10-year old Muhammad Asif of Mir Ali area in North Waziristan tribal region, was tested positive for polio.
This year, 54 polio cases were confirmed from the tribal areas, majority of them hailing from North Waziristan. Ten polio cases were confirmed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The militants banned anti-polio vaccination campaigns in South and North Waziristan agencies, causing an increase in the number of polio victims.
