Police foil heroin smuggling bid

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Excise, Taxation and narcotics department has seized 27000 grams heroin and 8000 grams hashish from hidden portions of a motorcar near Swabi interchange on Saturday.

Atta Ullah Khan, Assistant Director Communication has told media that vehicle bearing a government number plate was signalled to stop near Swabi Interchange on motorway. On thorough search, 27000 grams heroin and 8000 grams hashish were recovered from its hidden portions.

Khan added that they have also arrested an accused, Jamroz Khan, a resident of Tehkal in Peshawar. The official added that a case has been registered under relevant section of law and started further investigation.

Atta said that the intelligence bureau of the department was informed about such a drug smuggling bid. Atta added that all efforts are being made to make the country free from all type of drugs.

Police arrest six gamblers

The Peshawar Police on Saturday arrested six gamblers from Gulbahar area when police raided a gambling den near Ishrat Cinema within the jurisdiction of Gulbahar police station.

The Police force said that the raid was conducted on the base of credible information about the existence of gamblers in the locality. The police on a tip-off constituted a team under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Police Zubair Cheema.

The police raided a house and arrested six gamblers along with money on stake and tools used for gambling. The police team said that case has been registered under the relevant section of laws and started further investigation.

78 Arrested In Crackdown Against Profiteers In Peshawar

District administration Peshawar has arrested 78 persons from different localities of the city during a crackdown against profiteering.  The arrested persons include fruit and vegetable sellers, grocers, milkmen, butchers and others, said a hand out issued on Saturday.

On the directives of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Peshawar, Mohammad Ali Asghar a crackdown against profiteers is in full swing wherein the officers of the district administration used to visit fruit and vegetable markets during wee hours and then issue official price-list and later take action against the violators of the price-list.
