NOWSHERA: A bid by unknown miscreant to target Maulana Ahmed Qasim Haqqani, leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) in Nowshera was foiled on Saturday.

TNN correspondent reported that unknown miscreants came on a motorcycle and they tried to enter the house of Maulana Ahmed Qasim Haqqani in Zara Miana area to target him. However, due to resistance by the JUI-S leader and local people, the attackers escaped from the scene. The miscreants were wearing masks and they could not be identified.

Police cordoned off the entire area and checked the vehicles on the nearby routes. However, the miscreants could not be arrested.

Misri Banda Police said Maulana Ahmed Qasim Haqqani was facing no threat, therefore, no security was provided to him.

The JUI-S chief Maulana Hamidul Haqqani condemned the bid to attack Maulana Ahmed Qasim Haqqani and demanded the government to provide security to religious leaders. He said it is the responsibility of the government to protect life and property of all citizens.

The case of the incident was not registered till filing of this report. Some analysts believe that miscreants wanted to target Maulana Ahmed Qasim to disturb law and order situation during Muharramul Haram.

2 killed, one injured in firing incidents

Two people lost their lives and another was injured in a firing incident in Nowshera on Saturday.

A woman, Maryam had entered marriage according to her own free choice few years ago and her relatives found her in Aisodi Payan area of Akora Khattak. They allegedly opened fire on the woman and her husband. Her husband, Momin Khan died on the spot, while the woman escaped narrowly. The assailants escaped after committing the murder.

In Mughalki, Misri Banda, a 25-year-old boy Sher Muhammad was shot dead over refusal of a marriage proposal.

Another firing incident happened in Gandheri area of Risalpur where a man opened fire on his wife’s brother, leaving him critically injured. The boy, Yasir had come to take his estranged sister home when his sister’s husband opened fire on him.
