A joint meeting of border chambers of commerce was held to discuss Pakistan-Afghanistan border trade, the reopening of border crossings, and the trade and economic challenges facing the former tribal districts.

Participants agreed on the need to restore operations at key border crossings, particularly Angoor Adda, Ghulam Khan, Kharlachi, Torkham, Chaman, and Badini, while emphasizing the promotion of cross-border trade and the resolution of issues faced by affected traders.

The meeting also reached a consensus on adopting a joint strategy to revive border trade, create employment opportunities, and address the difficulties confronting the business community.

Addressing the meeting, Saif ur Rehman, President of the South Waziristan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said Pakistan's security, sovereignty, and national interest remain the top priority. However, he stressed that while meeting national security requirements, restoring border trade and addressing the hardships faced by local communities is equally essential.

He said the closure of border crossings has adversely affected thousands of traders, transporters, labourers, and families dependent on cross-border business. He urged all provincial chambers to adopt a united stance to effectively convey the concerns of traders and the public to the relevant authorities.

Presidents of all participating provincial chambers unanimously endorsed the demands and pledged to continue their joint efforts for the early reopening of the border crossings.

On the occasion, FPCCI Patron-in-Chief S.M. Tanveer announced that a joint delegation of all relevant border chambers would meet Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad on 30 July to present their proposals regarding the reopening of border crossings, the promotion of border trade, and the challenges faced by traders.

The meeting was held at Mohsin Hall of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Peshawar, and was jointly chaired by FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh and Patron-in-Chief S.M. Tanveer.
