PESHAWAR: Patients are suffering as doctors in the province continued their protest from hospital duties for the fourth day. The Chief Minister Mehmood Khan has invited the protesting doctors for dialogues on May 21.
On Saturday, the government hospitals nurses and the technicians also announced to join the doctors in their protest against the provincial government. They are protesting against the violence of Health minister Hisham Inam Ullah Khan on senior doctors and asking for his resignation. They also demand action against a deputy superintendent of police of allegedly torturing young doctors inside the town police station.
The provincial government in a press conference has said that they will resume OPDs in hospitals in Peshawar on Saturday (Today), however, the striking doctors warned that they will never come to their duty until their demands are accepted
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Doctor Council has accused the provincial government of propaganda to divert public attention from violence against doctors committed by the KP Police and provincial health minister.
The doctors have said that the privatization of hospitals is not acceptable to doctors as it will put further burden on the poor people of the province. The doctors’ association reiterated that their protest will be continued until action taken against health minister, Hisham Inam Ullah Khan.
The protesting doctors also demanded a Judicial Committee for the solution of the problem. The expressed that doctor’s community has no trust in KP police as they consider them a government party.
The doctors believe that due to the ‘failed’ government policies, Medical Teaching Institutes have already badly failed to provide healthcare facilities to the poor patients. The council warned that in such an uncertain situation it is not possible for doctors to carry out their duties and will continue their protest.
The doctors representative said that still, they are providing some of the basic health facilities to patients, it will be hard for the government to manage if they decided to stop that too. He said that the government is responsible for all of the patient’s sufferings.
