BATAGRAM, May 7: Children in Battagram Peshori area have no option but to receive education at a Hujra (outhouse) since a devastating earthquake destroyed their school in 2005.
The Hujra, which has been part of Pakhtun culture since time immemorial, is a portion of a house reserved for male guests.
Local residents told TNN that even nine years after the earthquake, the successive governments had not reconstructed it.
A schoolteacher, Mr Gul Bahar, told TNN, “I teach my class under the shade of a tree, which is not a proper way to teach.”
He added that because they were using Hujra as a school, they have to close classes for three days in case of death of a local resident. “This has affected education of the children and many don’t come to school regularly.”
