PESHAWAR: The death toll from novel coronavirus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has mounted to 93 after four more deaths were reported in the province on Saturday.

According to the KP Health Department, all the four deaths on Saturday were reported from Peshawar.

As many as 85 new cases of coronavirus were reported in KP on Saturday, bringing the provincial total to 1,793. Two of these new cases were reported from Torkham quarantine centre.

So far 485 people in KP have recovered from coronavirus.

KP has recorded the highest deaths in the country and experts are attributing it to various reasons. Adviser to Chief Minister on Information Ajmal Wazir believes that high incidence of COVID-19 deaths in the province is because people seek treatment for the virus too late.

Dr Javed to be nominated for civil award

A senior doctor from Peshawar was also among those who died of the virus on Saturday.

Professor Dr Muhammad Javed serving in Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) Peshawar lost his life on Saturday after battling with coronavirus for 15 days. After staying on ventilator for several days, Professor Dr Javed died in the wee hours of Saturday. The hospital director said Dr Javed was performing duties at the ENT Department of HMC.

KP Chief Minister Mehmood Khan paid tribute to the deceased doctor said that he will nominate him for a civil award. The chief minister visited the HMC and offered condolences to the staff at the hospital over Dr Javed’s death. He also announced a special package for the deceased doctor’s family.

“Dr Javed’s great sacrifice for coronavirus patients will be remembered for a long time,” the chief minister said.

Countrywide death toll mounts to 265

The number of confirmed cases in the country rose to 12,658 after different parts of the country reported new cases.

The total death toll in Pakistan now stands at 265, with KP having the most fatalities at 93. Sindh has reported 78 deaths, Balochistan 10, Gilgit-Baltistan three, Punjab 78 and Islamabad Capital Territory has reported three deaths.

According to latest data, Sindh has reported 4,232 cases, Punjab 5,326, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 1,793, Balochistan 721, Islamabad Capital Territory 223, Gilgit-Baltistan 308 and Azad Jammu and Kashmir has reported 55 cases.

A total of 2,755 people in Pakistan have recovered from coronavirus so far.
