PESHAWAR, September 5: Differences have cropped up between the government and opposition parties due to a controversial statement of the Interior Minister, Mr Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

On 4 September, the interior minister told a press conference that Senator Aitezaz Ahsan of the Pakistan People’s Party was abetting land mafia and corruption in the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

At session of the parliament, held in connection with the ongoing political crisis, the opposition benches have criticised the statement of Mr Nisar Ali Khan and said the statement insulted all the opposition parties.

The opposition leader, Mr Khushrid Shah, told the parliament that the interior minister should apologise to the House over his statement.

Later, the Prime Minister, Mr Nawaz Sharif, apologised to Aiteza Ahsan, Khurshid Shah and the entire House over Mr Nisar’s statement.

However, Mr Nisar has said he would respond to Mr Ahsan through a press conference on 6 September.
