TANK, July 24: The families, displaced from South Waziristan during the military operation “Rah-e-Nijat” have protested the non-supply of food ration to them.

At a rally today, the demonstrators said the food distribution authorities were providing relief items to the IDPs on “references”. They said many IDPs kept on visiting the distribution centre for last one week but they were yet to receive food items.

“Three days ago, the administration asked us to visit the centre for food items. Now we came here and we have been waiting since a long time in the hot weather but now they have refused to provide food to us. So we are going back empty-handed,” said a member of one of the operation-affected families.

Another one said, “We are in trouble due to non-provision of food ration. If the administration cannot provide us food, they must allow us to go back home.”

The Operation Rah-e-Nijat was launched in 2009 and it lead to displacement of about 15,500 families from South Waziristan.
