PESHAWAR: A doctor and a medical student died of coronavirus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as death toll in the province reached 1,294 on Tuesday.

Provincial Doctors Association (PDA) said that Dr Bashir, former deputy medical superintendent of King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, Mansehra was ailing for last several days after contracting coronavirus and was undergoing treatment at District Headquarters Hospital Mansehra.

His funeral prayer was held at 2:00pm which was attended by a large number of people. The PDA paid tributes to Dr Bashir and said his services will be remembered for ever.

The PDA said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has yet not released the Shuhada package for the healthcare practitioners who died of coronavirus.

The KP secretary Health Department Syed Imtiaz Hussain Shah has also contracted coronavirus and he has gone into isolation. He said he visited Chitral and felt unwell after coming back. He said he underwent corona test which came back as positive. He said he has quarantined himself for two weeks and will work from home.

Meanwhile, Dr Adnan Haleem, a medical student of Khyber Medical College Peshawar, died of coronavirus on Tuesday.

PDA said Dr Adnan Haleem, hailing from Swat, was on ventilator in Khyber Teaching Hospital.

Chief Minister Mehmood Khan paid tributes to the services of Dr Adnan and prayed for eternal rest and peace of the departed soul. He prayed that the bereaved family may bear the loss with equanimity. He said the provincial government highly values the services of doctors and support staff.

According to latest data of the KP Health Department, 226 new cases were confirmed during the last 24 hours, taking the total to 41,069. Four new deaths were reported in last 24 hours keeping the total at 1,294. 174 more patients have recovered taking the total tally to 38,342. Active corona cases in KP are 1,433.

In Pakistan, a total of 1,637 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed during the last 24 hours, bringing the tally to 346,476. With 23 new deaths, the country’s coronavirus death toll has reached 7,000. So far, a total of 319,431 people have recovered from the virus while the active number of cases stands at 20,045.

With 31,904 tests conducted across Pakistan, the positivity rate has reached 5 percent.
