PESHAWAR, May 23: The United Nations has said in a report that the number of drug addicts in Pakistan has registered a sharp rise compared to last year.
The UN Office on Drugs and Crime says in its annual report that there were 2.9 million drug addicts in Pakistan last year and adds that this year the number has increased to 6.7 million, .
The report also says that most of the addicts used charas (hashish), opium, heroin and sleeping pills. A majority of the drug dependents are between the age group of 25 to 40 years.
The report has criticized the government of Pakistan as it says the government did not provide free medication facilities for the drug addicts.
