The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has convened an important consultative meeting regarding the conduct of local government elections in 23 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to a letter issued by the ECP to the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Secretary for Local Government, the meeting will be held today in Islamabad under the chairmanship of the Chief Election Commissioner. Discussions will focus on preparations and arrangements for local government elections in the 23 districts where the tenure of local councils has expired.
The letter states that the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Secretary for Local Government have been invited to attend the meeting.

According to sources, the first phase of local government elections is expected to be considered in Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mohmand, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, North Waziristan, Tank, Abbottabad, Haripur, Battagram, and Torghar.
The districts of Upper Kohistan, Lower Kohistan, Kolai-Palas, Buner, Lower Chitral, Lower Dir, and Upper Dir are also included in the agenda for discussions on holding local government elections.
The meeting will review the proposed election schedule, administrative preparations, and coordination among relevant institutions to ensure the smooth conduct of the polls.
