TAKHTBHAI, April 24: The local administration demolished encroachments in Takhtbhai tehsil of Mardan district yesterday, officials said.
They said the shops set up along the railway lines were pulled down during the campaign. The officials added that prior to launching the operation, they had issued notices to the encroachers to vacate the area as the government wanted to start construction work on a flyover in the area.
However, the shopkeepers told TNN that they had taken the land from the Railways Department on lease for 99 years and that now they would appeal to the court against the authorities’ action.
One of the shopkeepers told TNN, “Earlier, the administration warned us to vacate the area till 30 April. But while I was bringing some goods worth approximately 60,000 rupees for my shop yesterday, the authorities were demolishing the shops here. I have suffered huge loss due to the crackdown.”
“I suffered a loss of approximately 300,000 rupees as the authorities demolished my shop and also threw fruit and other items on the road. Now they must provide us an alternate place for our businesses,” said another trader.
