Five policemen were martyred when terrorists attacked their patrolling van in the Kulchai area of Dera Ismail Khan late on Monday.
Police said that the incident took place near the Yadgar Chowk area when terrorists attacked the mobiles of DSP Fazal Subhan Khweshgi and SHO Kulahi with rocket launchers and other heavy weapons.
A police mobile caught fire after the attack and five policemen were martyred in the attack while others were received burn wounds.
The martyred cops were identified as head constable Kamran, constables Munawar, Niaz Ali and Jamshid and driver Abdul Rehman.
In addition to this, DSP Kulachi Fazal Subhan Khweshgi and constables Imran, Jamshd and Yahya Bib Akbar were wounded in the attack.
The injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment while a police party also conducted search operation in the area.
