PESHAWAR, April 30: The National Institute of Health (NIH) has confirmed five new polio cases from North Waziristan Agency and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

According to a statement from the NIH, the fresh cases include three from North Waziristan and one each from South Waziristan Agency and Bannu district.

It says that after the confirmation of five new cases, the total number of polio cases in Pakistan has reached 58 this year. Of these cases, 45 were reported from the tribal areas, nine from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and four from Sindh province.

A four-day polio control conference, organised by the World Health Organisation, is underway in Geneva. Observers fear that Pakistani nationals may be banned from entering various countries.
