PESHAWAR, May 8: Four people including a child were injured in an explosion at Mina Bazaar in the provincial capital Peshawar yesterday, the police said.
A time bomb placed by unidentified people in a drain under a shop exploded, injuring four people. The injured were rushed to local hospital.
Reports in the Pakistani media quoted bomb disposal squad chief Mr Shafqat Malik as saying that 300 grams of explosives had been used in the timer device.
Mr Ihsan Marwat, station house officer (SHO) of the Kotwali Police Station, said the bomb had been planted to target a shop selling cold drinks.
An SHO, usually an inspector in rank, heads a police station in Pakistan.
The police official said the blast appears to be a personal enmity as the same shop had been attacked last year.
Mina Bazaar has witnessed a number of bomb attacks and the deadliest was the October 28, 2009 car bombing, which had left 137 people dead and over 200 injured.
