PESHAWAR, July 19: A steering committee formed by the Higher Education Commission to support displaced families of North Waziristan has announced free education and monthly stipends of 5,000 rupees each to the displaced students in all the major public sector and some private universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The meeting at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) discussed a plan of action on three main areas, including education, health and rehabilitation of the displaced tribal people.
Representatives from Peshawar University, Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan, UET, Khyber Medical University, IM Sciences, Islamia College, Sarhad University and University of Agriculture, announced seats for displaced students for the session 2014-15 in undergraduate and postgraduate classes. The universities also announced to offer a monthly stipend of Rs5000 along with free tuition, hostel and mess facility.
Another combined team of the University of Agriculture, Peshawar, and Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan, comprising veterinary sciences representatives, will register the livestock of IDPS after Eidul Fitr. Registered animals will be placed in care centres where their feed and healthcare needs will be looked after.
