PESHAWAR, October 10: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor, Mr Sardar Mehtab, has decided to close the schools having less than 20 students in the tribal region.
On the directives of the governor, the FATA Directorate of Education has started a survey. The Deputy Director of FATA Planning and Development Department, Mr Azad Khan, said the decision was taken to improve quality of education and close ‘ghost’ schools in FATA region.
He said the teachers and students of those schools, to be closed, would be shifted to other schools in their respective areas.
However, several people have disapproved of this decision. “We are not in favour of this decision because it may create problems for many schoolchildren,” said a tribesman of Khyber Agency.
Another tribesman said, “Many children will drop out of schools due to this decision about closure of schools.”
