PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Museum launched a mobile app in English, Urdu and Pashto languages to make it easy for the foreigners to explore the museum online and understand the history of the region.
The application was developed by Minister of Archaeology, Culture, Tourism and Youth Affairs Muhammad Atif Khan on Tuesday. It is developed by KasabGar a social enterprise, supported by the US Embassy in collaboration with KP Directorate of Archaeology and Museums.
This is the first time in KP where the entire story of the Buddha in the museum has been modelled into a mobile app. A facilitation Kiosk is established at Peshawar Museum with Tablets having the application installed on it to facilitate the digital tour of Buddha Gallery. Visitors who do not possess smartphones can get tablets from kiosk to enjoy the virtual tour.
The app with the name of ‘Peshawar Museum’ can be downloaded in any mobile using Google Playstore and apple store. Its availability in three languages – English, Urdu and Pashto – both in Text and Audio makes it the only app in Pakistan which let users have a virtual tour of the Peshawar Museum anywhere on their phones and during the visit to the museum in Peshawar.
Shafeeq Gigyani, Lead Re-think Peshawar project said that the Museum holds a rich history of our region which cannot be explored without the help of guide from the Museum, now this application will help visitors to explore Museum on their own. The KP government through the Mobile App intended to create a fusion of heritage and technology, where the heritage is preserved and communicated to the young generation in a better engaging way.
Tahira Kaleem Chief Executive Officer shared that “The app is developed to help visitors understand cultural and religious history which has been preserved in the museum in 1906. Since its establishment, the Peshawar Museum saw a number of expansions and addition of different items but this technological intervention has been done for the first time. The digital application conveys history in easy to understand language and highlights the importance of tolerance and coexistence in our history.
