PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to extend Khpal Kor project to all district of the province – including the newly merged districts – after “its success in Peshawar, Nowshera and Kohat districts in providing affordable housing.”
The officials said that the Khpal Kor housing program will be started at Township in Hangu and Surizai village in Peshawar where sufficient land was available, adding plots would be given to disabled, martyrs and Temporary Displaced Persons at a discounted rate.
The Hangu Township will be constructed at 8300 kanal of land. Development of Mega-City over an area of about 117,000 kanal in District Swabi, near Karnal Sher Khan Interchange, would help in addressing housing shortage problems. A model town will also be developed in Swat to provide affordable housing facilities to people.
This ‘Khpal Kor’ scheme was initially launched for government employees in developed houses schemes of Provincial Housing Authority including Jalozai Nowshera, Mulazai Peshawar, Jerma Kohat and Havellian Abbottabad where residential plots were allotted to employees of KP Government through balloting procedure.
He said KP government has signed an agreement with banks for acquiring loans for construction of houses under Khpal Kor scheme. Those employees constructing a home on the five-marla plot will get loan of about Rs1. 8 million, while Rs 2.5 million loan will be given for seven-marla plot and Rs 3 million for 10-marla plot under Khpal Kor. The employees will have to return these loans in 20 years in easy instalments and have to complete construction of the house within one year.
The employees will have the choice either to complete the construction on their own arrangement or do it through a well-reputed construction company contracted by the government.
Around 750,000 houses would be constructed in different districts of the province for poor people and low paid income groups in next five years under PM’s Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme under which five million houses would be constructed in the country over a period of five years.
