PESHAWAR: The headmaster and watchman of a government school in Peshawar have been suspended over a dance party inside the school.

Local sources said a dance party was arranged inside Government Primary School Mathra in the night and some people filmed the party and put it on social media which went viral quickly.

Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Shahram Khan Tarakai took notice of the matter and the district education officer of Peshawar issued a notice of suspension of the school headmaster and watchman.

The principal of Government Higher Secondary School Sufaid Sang has been given the task of inquiry into the matter. He has been asked to complete the inquiry within three days and submit report.

Meeting of education ministers called

A meeting of provincial education ministers has been called on November 05 to discuss strategy amid the growing cases of coronavirus in the country.

Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood will chair the meeting during which the scenario of coronavirus cases at educational institutions will be checked and then decision will be taken accordingly.

Sources said the meeting will discuss the timing for the winter vacations and make planning for the ongoing academic session. Decision about holding board exam or otherwise of middle standard students will also be taken.

Schools not closing

Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood has made it clear that schools will not be closed in Pakistan.

“Rumours again afloat regarding school closures. It is again clarified that educational institutions are NOT being closed,” the minister said on Twitter.

Shafqat Mehmood said the government would keep a close on the situation and monitor the health of students and teachers.

NCC meeting today

Prime Minister Imran Khan has also called a meeting of the National Coordination Committee (NCC) today (Tuesday) to discuss ways to combat coronavirus.

The prime minister will also be briefed by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on the current situation.

Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar has also said that the government was considering measures to curb the spread of coronavirus.

“Recommendations will be tabled in the NCC being. Need to take immediate measures which have the most impact on disease spread without curtailing economic activity,” he said on Twitter.
