PESHAWAR: A staff nurse at Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Hayatabad’s Labour Colony, police said.

The incident reportedly took place on the afternoon of August 13. Police said the woman, aged around 28 to 29, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her home.

Hayatabad police registered a first information report (FIR) regarding the incident. Police said they reached the scene after receiving information from Industrial Estate Police Post Assistant Sub-Inspector Arshad Khan and took the body into custody.

After completing the necessary legal formalities, police shifted the body to Khyber Medical College for a post-mortem examination.

The deceased, identified as Farzana, had been working as a staff nurse in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Hayatabad Medical Complex for the past eight years. She was originally from Chitral, while her husband also belonged to the same district.

HMC Nursing Supervisor Muaz Khan said the exact reason behind the incident remained unknown. He said the family had also not provided any confirmed reason, although personal or family-related issues were being considered as a possible factor.

According to the hospital administration, no role of the hospital had emerged in the incident based on the information available so far.

Police have launched a further investigation, with officials saying the exact circumstances and cause of the death will be determined after the investigation is completed.
