PESHAWAR: The Medical Teaching Institution (MTI) Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) has strongly rejected allegations levelled by charge nurse Shakila Naz during a press conference, describing them as baseless, misleading and contrary to facts, while maintaining that all action taken against her was based on the recommendations of inquiry committees and approved by the Board of Governors.

In a statement, the hospital administration said the first inquiry committee was constituted on September 22, 2025, following a complaint by a senior consultant in the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics. According to the administration, the committee found allegations of alleged misappropriation of hospital medicines, surgical equipment and disposable items, as well as harassment of senior doctors, to be substantiated.

The committee recommended that Shakila Naz be removed from MTI HMC and repatriated to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department, a recommendation that was implemented.

The administration said Shakila Naz later approached the court and obtained interim relief. Subsequently, a three-member inquiry committee was formed on March 16, 2026, to conduct a fresh investigation.

According to HMC, the second inquiry upheld the findings of the earlier investigation and further concluded that Shakila Naz had claimed dual-duty incentives for the same shift between February 2023 and December 2025. The committee reported that she had received Rs741,767 in IBP incentives over a period of 31 months in violation of financial and administrative rules.

The hospital said the Board of Governors, during its 52nd meeting held on June 6, 2026, approved the inquiry report, ordered recovery of the amount and endorsed the decision to send her back to the provincial Health Department.

HMC maintained that all actions were taken strictly in accordance with the law, institutional rules and transparent administrative procedures. The administration said it remained committed to transparency, accountability and professional ethics, but would not allow anyone to damage the reputation of the institution or its medical staff through what it termed unfounded allegations. It added that it reserved the right to initiate legal proceedings, including defamation, against those responsible for harming the institution's reputation.

Earlier, speaking at a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, charge nurse Shakila Naz alleged that she had been harassed after refusing to comply with certain demands and was subjected to multiple inquiries as an act of victimisation. She claimed that her salary had also been stopped.

Shakila Naz said she had been serving at Hayatabad Medical Complex for the past 18 years and alleged that she was facing retaliation for speaking out against what she described as illegal activities within the hospital.

She further alleged that illegal private abortions were being carried out in the hospital's gynaecology unit. She also claimed that placentas and the bodies of prematurely delivered stillborn babies were being sold to China.

The hospital administration has categorically denied the allegations, insisting that the disciplinary proceedings against the nurse were based solely on inquiry findings and due process.
