Hot and Dry Weather Expected Across KP, Thunderstorms Likely in Some Districts; Windstorm Claims Three Lives

Authorities have urged citizens to take precautionary measures in light of strong winds and the possibility of rain to avoid loss of life and property.

Peshawar: The Meteorological Department has forecast hot and dry weather across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the next 24 hours, though rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected in several districts.

According to the department’s spokesperson, areas likely to receive rain include Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Chitral, Swat, Dir, Shangla, Bajaur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Kohistan, Battagram, Khyber, Kurram, Bannu, Kohat, North and South Waziristan, and Dera Ismail Khan.

In Peshawar, temperatures are expected to range between 23°C and 43°C, while D.I. Khan could see temperatures rise as high as 46°C. The lowest temperature recorded in the province was 13°C in Kalam and Dir.

Meanwhile, strong winds and thunderstorms that swept across the province yesterday resulted in the loss of precious lives. 

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), three people, including a child and two men, lost their lives in various incidents caused by the severe weather, while 14 others were injured and three houses suffered partial damage.

The injured include eight men, three women, and three children. The incidents occurred in Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan, and Khyber. 

Nowshera reported the highest number of injuries with six people hurt, followed by two each in Peshawar and Mardan, while one house each was damaged in Khyber and Charsadda.
