BANNU, August 1: Internally displaced persons (IDPs) of North Waziristan have formed a grand Jirga comprising 50 elders for fulfilment of their demands in Bannu.

A Jirga is an assembly of elders. In Pashtun culture, it has great significance because it settles disputes and other issues.

On 31 July, a meeting of tribal elders of North Waziristan was held in Bannu town where 50 elders were selected from a small Jirga to forms a grand Jirga and all those selected were assigned responsibilities.

The Jirga elder and Chief of Waziristan, Malik Nasarullah, said that till now 92,000 families had been registered while registration of 40,200 families was cancelled.

He demanded registration of the remaining families and their rehabilitation back to their native areas as soon as possible.
