JAMRUD, July 18: Residents of Jamrud tehsil in Khyber Agency have complained of hiking price of ice and its shortage in the markets.
Local residents say the ice stock was finished in the markets before evening and that the people then don’t have it for Iftar, when the Muslims break their daylong fast.
People also criticised the local administration, which they said was not taking notice of the issue to ensure supply of ice blocks to local markets from factories.
“Traders are transporting ice to areas outside Jamrud tehsil to earn more profits. And most shopkeepers selling the commodity are overcharging consumers as there is no fixed rate,” said a local resident.
However, Tehsildar Irshad Khan Mohmand told TNN the administration had banned transportation of ice from Jamrud to other areas, but that only the surplus ice was supplied to other areas.
“We seized six trucks supplying ice illegally to other areas in recent past,” he said.
