The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has passed the Kalash Marriage Registration Bill 2026, aimed at providing legal recognition and registration for marriages within the Kalash community.
The bill was tabled in the House by Provincial Minister for Law Aftab Alam.
Under the legislation, every Kalash marriage will be registered at the Union Council level, while local governments will appoint registrars at the Village Council and Neighbourhood Council levels.

The law seeks to ensure the constitutional protection of the rights of marriage, family, mothers and children. It also strengthens the legal and religious rights of the Kalash community by providing a formal legal mechanism for the registration of Kalash marriages.
The bill further states that protecting the rights of religious minorities is a constitutional responsibility of the state.
