PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert for the first spell of monsoon rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, forecasting widespread rainfall, strong winds, and thunderstorms across most districts from July 1 to July 5.
According to the PDMA, heavy rainfall may trigger landslides in the upper districts and cause flash flooding in local streams and nullahs. The authority has also warned of possible urban flooding in Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swat, and Abbottabad.

The PDMA has directed all district administrations to complete precautionary measures in advance and ensure that rescue teams, machinery, and emergency services remain on high alert throughout the forecast period.

The authority further cautioned that strong winds and lightning could damage vulnerable structures, solar panels, standing crops, and other infrastructure.
Tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from rivers, streams, and other water bodies during the rainy spell. Farmers and livestock owners have also been urged to take precautionary measures to protect their crops and animals.
The PDMA said its Emergency Operations Centre is fully operational and urged the public to report any emergency or untoward incident by calling the PDMA helpline at 1700.
