PESHAWAR, November 18: The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to ban the private practice of the doctors serving at government hospitals.

Address the provincial cabinet, Provincial Information Minister Mr Mushtaq Ghani said that doctors were allowed to carry out private practice within the hospital and that they were not allowed to practice outside the hospital premises.

He added that the cabinet had decided to make four hospitals fully autonomous. In addition, about 500 of the doctors serving temporarily would be given permanent jobs soon.

He said the Lady Reading Hospital, Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) and Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) would function under the boards of directors.

He also said the cabinet had planned to replace Health Regulatory Authority with an independent Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Healthcare Commission.

“One-third of the commission members, including its chairman, will be from the private sector,” he added.
