The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has finalized a special allowance package for police personnel deployed in sensitive units, including the Special Branch, Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) and Canine Unit.
According to the proposed recommendations, officers and staff of these units will be granted a special allowance equal to 100 percent of their basic salary.
Sources said the allowance will be calculated on the basis of the 2022 basic pay scales and will place an annual financial burden of Rs1.37 billion on the provincial exchequer.

In the Special Branch, a total of 1,552 personnel; ranging from the Additional Inspector General of Police to constables, drivers, naib qasids, sweepers and other staff, will benefit from the package.
For the Bomb Disposal Unit, it has been proposed that 638 personnel be given a special allowance equivalent to their basic salary instead of the existing fixed allowance of Rs5,000.
Similarly, for the Canine Unit, recommendations have been made to increase the allowance for 60 officers and personnel from Rs5,000 to Rs43,610.
Officials said the move is aimed at acknowledging the professional services of police personnel and improving their welfare in view of the serious security challenges they face in the line of duty.
