The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has initiated an extensive anti-polio campaign across nine districts, including Peshawar, and 14 partial districts. Health Minister Qasim Ali Shah inaugurated the campaign by administering polio drops to children at the Police Service Hospital. This fourth anti-polio campaign of the year aims to vaccinate over 3.5 million children.

18,319 polio workers are participating in this campaign, which targets districts such as Peshawar, Kohat, Khyber, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, DI Khan, Lower Dir, Swabi, and Swat. The campaign also extends to Afghan refugee children in refugee camps, at the Pak-Afghan border, and in various union councils.

To ensure the safety and success of the campaign, over 26,000 police officers have been deployed. The anti-polio effort will continue until June 7. Notably, in 2023, there were four reported polio cases, but no new cases have been reported this year.
