District-level committees have been established in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to assess fire safety and emergency preparedness in government and private hospitals and other healthcare facilities.

According to the Health Department, the committees will inspect fire safety systems, firefighting equipment, emergency routes and exits in hospitals. Electricity, housekeeping and communication systems will also be reviewed.

During the fire safety audit, shortcomings will be identified and recommendations will be made to address and rectify them.

According to the Health Department, the district-level Fire Emergency Safety Committee will consist of 14 members, with the concerned deputy commissioner serving as the convener.

The committee will include officials from the Health Department, police, Rescue 1122 and Civil Defence, along with the director or medical director of the relevant hospital.

The Health Department said the fire safety committees will submit their reports to the concerned divisional commissioner and the Health Department within seven days of the notification being issued.
