JAMRUD, May 19: Kukikhel tribesmen of Khyber Agency have rejected the Collective Responsibility clause of the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) and they say they will not leave their area but will try to promote peace in the agency.

The FCR consists of a special set of laws applicable to the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) of northwestern Pakistan. The Collective Responsibility clause allows the tribal authorities to punish a whole tribe as a result of the behaviour or crime of one or more other individuals.

At a Jirga, the Kukikhel elders asked the government to take steps to solve their social problems instead of applying the law of collective responsibility on them.

One of the Jirga participants told TNN, “We will take care of our values and traditions and will try to solve all the problems of our area with support of government authorities. We never want to let happen any act that may deprive our people of education and land us in relief camps”.
