Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district witnessed major counter terrorism action on Wednesday as security forces, acting on precise intelligence, carried out two successful operations in the Mirzai and Manato areas, eliminating 22 terrorists and injuring several others.

According to security officials, the operations were launched immediately after intercepting credible intelligence regarding the presence of a militant group hiding near a populated locality. The terrorists had occupied a house and fortified it with explosives, using it as a covert base to plan attacks.

Security forces launched a swift, targeted and coordinated assault, killing 22 militants in the ensuing engagement. During the operation, the explosives planted inside the house detonated, destroying the structure. Reports indicate that a few security personnel also sustained injuries due to the blast.

Officials said the terrorists belonged to the Kharijite network that has been attempting to regroup in pockets close to civilian areas. The successful intelligence based action, they added, demonstrates the resolve of Pakistan’s security institutions to root out terrorism completely.

The security establishment reaffirmed that the nation and its armed forces remain united against the menace of terrorism and that operations will continue until the last terrorist is eliminated.
