At least seven people, including a traffic police official, were martyred and more than 18 others injured in a bomb blast near Sarai Naurang Bazaar in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to officials, the explosion was carried out using explosive material planted in a motorcycle.
Local police said the incident occurred while routine business activities were underway in the market. A senior police officer stated that the explosive device, fitted inside a motorcycle, detonated near a railway crossing.
Initial reports had suggested that two traffic police personnel on duty were killed in the blast.
Eyewitnesses said the sound of the explosion was heard from far away, while nearby shops also sustained damage.
Authorities said Rescue 1122 shifted more than 18 injured people from the scene to hospital.
An emergency has been declared in local hospitals, where doctors are providing medical treatment to the injured.
Following the incident, police cordoned off the area and launched an investigation. Officials said efforts are underway to determine the nature of the blast and identify those involved.
No militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. However, attacks on police and security forces have increased in recent months in Lakki Marwat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan.
