In the Khyber area of Landi Kotal, due to the worsening law and order situation, all government and private educational institutions have been closed from today on the decision of a national jirga. As a result, educational activities in the area have come to a complete halt.
According to local sources, under the jirga’s decision not only schools and colleges have been closed, but the ongoing polio campaign has also been boycotted. Some local staff of government departments have also been instructed to stop working.
Sources further say that during the protest situation, the national jirga has also announced a boycott of the Landi Kotal tehsil offices, while a ban has been imposed on the movement of motorcycles in the area. In this regard, motorcycle riders are being turned back at the Parang Sang checkpoint.
It is also reported that the jirga’s decision clearly states that villages or individuals who do not join the protest will face social boycott, along with fines of up to 50,000 rupees.

It is worth noting that a few days earlier, in the Sultan Khel Kunj Ground (Sikandar Khel) area of Landi Kotal tehsil in District Khyber, two people, including a Pakistan Army personnel, were killed in firing by unidentified armed men.
The identities of the deceased were Shah Fahad son of Muhammad Ayaz and Mehboob-ur-Rehman alias Budda, both reported to be from Sikandar Khel. According to sources, Shah Fahad had come home on Eid holidays.
After the incident, protests are ongoing in the area to restore peace and order.
