PESHAWAR: The Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) officials have announced that open-heart surgeries have been resumed at the Department of Cardiology after the supply of modern equipment on Monday.
The officials added that efforts are being made to provide the best healthcare facilities to patients. They further said that now every week, eight major heart surgeries are being performed at the cardiology department of the hospital.
Open April 13, the doctors of the hospital stopped to perform cardiac surgeries saying that there is no latest machinery and modern equipment available at the ward. The LRH Medical director wrote a letter that doctors have suspended cardiac surgeries for want of facilities. They had announced that the suspension of these surgeries is in the interest of patients for the time being.
It was further written that machines are out of order in the hospital and nothing was done despite repeated requests. In the letter, it was added that most of the operations are postponed due to lack of operation facilities for heart patients. It may be mentioned that KP Health minister Dr Hasham Inam Ullah Khan had declared LRH the best hospital of the province.
A writ petition was also filed in the Peshawar high court asking the court to direct the LRH administration and provincial government to immediately resume the open-heart surgeries at the hospital. The petitioner has said that the poor people of the province are unable to get treatment at private hospitals.
The PHCs’ bench while hearing the petition has directed the LRH and KP government to resume the service, before the next hearing of the case.
The spokesman for the LRH said that all the machinery has been brought to the hospital, and now every week, eight major heart operations are being conducted at LRH. Chairman Board of governors, Dr Salaman said that efforts are being made to provide best facilities to patients.
