PESHAWAR, October 10: Malala Yousafzai has been awarded Nobel Prize for her efforts to promote women’s education and their rights. She shares the Prize with Kailash Satyarthi, a rights activist working for child rights in India.
This year 278 people were contesting for the Nobel Prize, which is worth 120 million rupees.
Pakistani Prime Minister Mr Nawaz Sharif, President Mr Mamnoon Hussain and several political leaders have congratulated Ms Malala Yousafzai for winning the prize and said it was a matter of pride for the entire Pakistan.
Ms Malala Yousafzai has also won the Amnesty International Award, the International Children’s peace prize and the European Parliament’s Sakharov Prize.
She is the second Pakistani to win a Nobel Prize. Previously, Mr Abdus Salam, a known Pakistani scientist, has won the award for his works in the field of particle physics in 1979.
Ms Yousafzai was shot in the head by militants in Swat in the year 2012 and she was later shifted to UK for treatment.
