Peshawar: A young man who was injured during a shooting at a jirga over a dispute involving the alleged second marriage of a TikToker woman has died of his wounds. Members of the opposing party were also injured in the incident. Police have registered cases against both sides, while two suspects remain at large.

According to police, the incident occurred on June 30 in Idrima, Shahpur Babutown, Peshawar. Asghar, son of Ahmad Khan, reported that his sister's husband, Sami, had allegedly been subjecting her to domestic violence. To resolve the matter, he, along with his brother Abdul Samad, their father, and other relatives, went to the suspect's house as part of a jirga.

The police report states that the discussion during the jirga turned into a heated argument and then a physical altercation, after which the suspects allegedly opened fire. Abdul Samad and his brother Asghar were injured in the shooting. Abdul Samad later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The complainant has nominated Sami, Inam, Suhail, and Qari Saleem in the case.

The deceased's father, Ahmad Khan, said they had married their daughter to Sami four years ago. However, he alleged that Sami secretly contracted a second marriage with a TikToker woman and subsequently began abusing their daughter. He said the jirga had gone to seek an amicable settlement, but the suspects were already armed.

He added that 35-year-old Abdul Samad was married and had worked in Saudi Arabia for five years as a labourer.

Police said that two of the four nominated suspects have been arrested, while raids are underway to apprehend the remaining two.

The victim's family has appealed to the CCPO Peshawar to ensure the swift arrest of the absconding suspects and provide them with justice.
